Looking back at a week of action, campaigning and keeping a vigil for the cancellation of Indonesia's arms debt

Few things are as important as making a stand against injustice and after a week of the dawn to dusk vigil against Indonesia's arms debt - hundreds more people have joined the call for the UK government to lift the lid on these unjust arms loans.

Taking to the streets of Edinburgh we set up camp from Sunday 14th-19th October beginning each day before sunrise and ending at sundown. Throughout the week more and more people joined the vigil and hundreds of the public signed the petition to be delivered to the Chancellor Alistair Darling.

The site of the vigil was fantastic right on Princes Street and not only were we visible to pedestrians but to all the traffic - some of the best moments were of seeing whole busloads of people turn and read our banners!

A truely amazing week with the amazing support of so many people!

Below are some photos from the vigil but to see many more please visit our flicker site

Placards which publicised our campaign messages were invaluable to hold up to the buses at the traffic lights

Nearly 600 people signed our petition calling for the cancellation of Indonesia's arms debt - a huge list of names which we will take to Alistair Darling

Some of those joining the vigil were peace and anti-arms trade campaigners.

Throughout the week we invited musicans to come and play to keep our morale up and to entertain passers by.

It was especially inspiring when people turned up to help at 7am just as both Edinburgh and its inhabitants were waking up!

Another addition to the vigil was Jonathan Baxter who makes 'protest umbrellas'. It gave us a chance to be creative (and protect us from the weather)

The whole point of the vigil was to raise awareness in Edinburgh on the issue of Indonesia's arms debts and to collect a petition that would be delivered to Alistair Darling.

As the Chancellor of the Exchequer he holds the purse strings for debt cancellation and we wait expectantly for his response to our petition.
