The Global Jubilee campaign has resulted in many unpayable debts being cancelled - but unless we reform the world's lending system, we risk the same problem arising again.

Jubilee Scotland believes that the way forward is to TURN THE SPOTLIGHT ON THE LENDER. We must be sure that all loans made from the UK are helpful and ethical.

We are calling for an investigation into unjust loans. Loans knowingly given to corrupt regimes or for corrupt purposes, are sometime called "odious" - that is, they stink. They can be prevented! Existing laws, properly applied, would block many, and where the law permits them it can be tightened.

Join us in asking the UK government to:

  • Investigate thoroughly past lending by the UK and international institutions to weed out unjust debts
  • Cancel all unpayable or unjust debts
  • Prevent unjust debt in future through responsible lending and export policies.

The campaign will take individual cases of bad loans made by the UK and push our government to investigate and cancel these debts

Indonesian Arms Debts

The first Lift the Lid campaign focuses on INDONESIA where the UK sold arms that were used to oppress the Indonesian people. But now its the people who have to pay back the debt...
